Bi-Co Speaker Series on Reproductive Rights and Abortion

Mar 15
2023
7:00pm - 9:00pm
Off Campus Event, Haverford College, Chase Hall, Room 104

The 2022-2023 Bi-Co Speaker Series on the past, present, and future of reproductive rights and abortion seeks to foster conversations around the experiences, opportunities, and challenges facing patients, practitioners, and advocates in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Continuing our conversations from last semester, our two spring events aim to connect students with practitioners on the front lines of providing reproductive and abortion care and advocates on the front lines of the legal and policy battles for reproductive rights and justice. Both events will include plenty of time for conversation, questions, and discussion. All in our Bi-Community are welcome to attend! Light refreshments will be provided.

Meet the speakers:

  • Dr. Diane Horvath, M.D., MPH is co-founder and medical director of Partners in Abortion Care, an all-trimester abortion clinic in College Park, Maryland.
  • Dr. Malina Spirito, Psy.D., M.Ed., PMH-C is director of psychology services at ChristianaCare’s Center for Women’s Emotional Wellness, specializing in perinatal mental health.

Dr. Diane Horvath and Dr. Malina Spirito will discuss the challenges of offering abortion and reproductive health care services in the wake of the Dobbs decision, their experiences on the front lines of reproductive care, and their role in linking advocacy to their work as practitioners.

Mark your calendar for the next event on Friday, April 21 , 7-9 p.m., in Old Library, 224. In this panel, Sue Frietsche '77, founder and senior counsel of the Western PA office of the Women's Law Project, and Mindy McGrath '00, senior director of policy and communications at the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, will discuss the current legal and policy situation that influences reproductive health and rights since the repeal of Roe v. Wade, offer perspectives on the future of reproductive health and justice, and address current strategies of advocacy and ways that students might get involved.
