The medieval herbal, based on Dioscorides' first-century CE De materia medica, offers a rich array of plant depictions along with descriptions of their medicinal uses. It also accommodates non-botanical substances, including those derived from the mineral realm. The history of representing stones and their presence in medieval pharmacological practices are explored in this talk.
