What's happening at your internship? We would love to hear what kind of work you are doing!
This summer, we are working on two major projects involving Bionic and Moodle. For the bionic project, we are assisting the Registrar's Office by creating videos for incoming and returning students to help them navigate Bionic more easily. The Moodle project is geared more towards doing user-testing for the new Moodle interface and Ask Athena documentation and reporting those data to help improve the user experience for both students and faculty.
Why did you apply for this internship?
One of the major reasons for my interest in this internship is its objective to ensure current students' accessibility and discoverability of information with a focus on underrepresented groups. Both Bionic and Moodle are used by students and professors almost every day during the academic year, so to be able to make it easier for the users to navigate these sites is definitely an interesting learning process.
What has been your favorite part of this internship?
My favorite part of this internship is definitely the team that I work with. The supervisors and other interns are super friendly and supportive about new ideas and strategies and I can't imagine a better team without these people.
What is something you have learned from your internship that you didn't expect?
I was always interested to learn about video editing and that was something that I did not expect to learn in this internship.
Can you talk about the skills you are learning and why they are important to you?
Since we have two major projects to work on this summer, working on them simultaneously will assist in enhancing my skills such as multi-tasking, problem-solving, and time management. Other skills that I am excited to acquire this summer include video editing, user testing, etc. I am also keen to learn more about accessibility guidelines when we create instructional materials for both projects.
What has been the biggest challenge you have faced at your internship?
The biggest challenge for me personally has been working nine to five every weekday since that is not something that I am accustomed to doing during the school year.
What is most rewarding about your internship?
The most rewarding thing about this internship has been the company that I have every day while working.
Was this internship what you expected it to be?
I expected some coding to be involved in our work when I had applied for this internship, but working with Bionic and Moodle has been very educational yet fun too.
